With the introduction of the new Tucson ix35 it is important we get a section dedicated to it running as soon as possible. With that, I will be trying to find the optimal way to keep the forum organized as we have three separate sections (first gen tucson, second gen tucson and kia sportage)

Rather than close the forum while I work on it, I'll leave it open. Don't panic if something magically changes while you're browsing

Hopefully it shouldn't interfere with any postings. If you are writing a long post I would reccomend saving it as a draft (by clicking the save button) before attempting to post it. The fact that I'm changing the forum structure may cause some errors if I make a change just as you hit the 'post' button!

I am car shopping with my daughter right now for her off-to-college car. She initially wanted a Honda Cr-V but lost all interest in it when she saw the new Tucson. Unless it turns out to be poorly engineered and/or unreliable, the Tucson is going to take a big bite out of Honda. To find a better looking small to mid sized SUV, you would need to spend much bigger bucks for a Lexus RX. My opinion only.

Hi and welcome callan88 - WoW buying your daughter a car ! Wish my folks had 40 odd years ago when I was at that age but I suppose it is a sign of the times.

The new tucson (to you in the USA and ix35 to almost everyone else) is a very well engineered product and no doubt will pass the test fully in due course. As this is a brand new vehicle obviously it will have teething problems but with the big warranty these are fixable by agents acting for Hyundai.

The real question is do I buy a new product straight away or do I wait for 6-12 months for it to have any kinks ironed out- Me I would personally wait a while- buy her something small to last those waiting months and then go for it.

In Europe we have the diesel version of the current model and its very popular with few faults if any (mine is fault free from 2007 till now, and has only seen a dealer for servicing annually)

Hyundai build quality has been getting better year by year and it is easy to see that with their sales creeping up against those of established motor manufacturers that they are certainly a force to be rekoned with.

Cheers

Itza

I agree with your suggestion to wait out the initial teething problems. She's driving an old Nissan beater right now, but it should last long enough to see what major issues pop up with the Tucson, if any.

I would have had one in my driveway by now, but i too think i will wait for the "kinks" to show up and be fixed before i go and buy mine. I actually want to wait to see if Hyundia will put the new direct injection engine in it. The same day a direct injection Tucson shows up in my dealer's showroom is the day it will be in my driveway!
